Happy Birthday Emily

This is the Birthday girl in her Birthday apron!! Pretty cute, huh??? We cooked out hotdogs for lunch and had queso and chips with Dr. Pepper. No birthday cake, just cupcakes! Notice the 22 on the cupcakes...her age, no doubt!! I guess the most significant thing about this birthday is that it is her last one as Emily Spurlock. At this time next Saturday, she will be Emily Barnes...but for today, we can continue to say, " Happy Birthday Emily Spurlock".

Birds,Birds and a Squirrel

Recently I made a birdcage out of an old iron basket and hung it outside my breakfast room window! To my delight,I get to watch my feathered friends eat their "Daily Bread" or should I say "Daily Seed. I have also learned about their different personalities. So here we have Mr. Blue Jay with an Attitude, Shy Sparrow, Confident Mr Robin who was quite the friendly guy, and the cute Squirrel who crashed the "Bird Photo Shoot" and sat on the gate until I snapped his picture! I hope you enjoy these as much as I have!!!!

Spring is in the Air!

What a beautiful time of year! Thank you Lord for the beauty
of Springtime....the flowers, the green grass, the sweet smells
in the air, the rain, the sunshine and the million other ways you
show us your artistic Hand! I love you!

I Love Lucy

I grew up watching the show "I Love Lucy" with Lucille Ball. My mom and I loved to sit and laugh at the crazy redhead as she got herself into some of the most ridiculous situations known to man. When I had my girls, we also watched the show and laughed like crazy. We STILL love to watch the old reruns and no matter how many times we have seen them (and I have seen them all) we laugh and laugh!!! It was only fitting that when I bought my 50th birthday present (not so long ago....OK, five years to be exact)I knew exactly what I wanted to name her....so I did!!! Please meet one of the loves of my life.....Lucy!!!!! Oh, by the way, did I tell you she makes us laugh and smile all the time???

It's Almost Here

Last January I went to Market with Mary and I found the most wonderful (and useful, I might add) painted chest from Brazil. It was the last one on the floor and they had just sold it. It was a perfect piece that I could have used in the bedroom for the storage of sweaters, etc. To make a long story short, the rep, Sonia (also from Brazil) said she would let me custom order one for the sale price she had given the buyer. Needless to say, I knew I would never get one at that price in the states, so after almost 6 months of waiting, I get to go pick up MINE in Dallas the first week of June! Sure hope it will fit in the back of my Tahoe! Looks like a roadtrip to Dallas...Wanna come??

Garage Sale Find!

When my friend and I went garage sale shopping a couple of weeks ago, I spotted several of these windows. The prettiest one was arched shape and then this one was next. The price was unbelievable (low,of course) but I knew I had to have a place to put it to justify buying it. I was about to give up trying to figure out where it could go when Susan looked at me and said "The large window in your bathroom...It would be perfect there!!!!" Ok, get out the checkbook and figure out what I am going to tell Mark. My brain was really thinking by now and I decided it would be the perfect Mother's Day gift for me! When I got home and started unloading the car, his eyes did get a bit large, but he really did like the purchase. Once hung in the window, we both agreed it was perfect for the spot and a treasure I love! Thanks, honey! Great gift!!!!!

Rain,Rain,Go Away!!!!!

I know, we need rain, but I have to admit that today I prayed and even called people to pray that the rain would not begin until after 5:00 o'clock. Today was our third attempt for an outdoor wedding portrait before May 31st. Everything was in place...the nails, the toenails, the make-up, the hair and the bouquet. The weather forecast was in place, too, with a 40% chance of rain. It was very overcast, cool and misty as I ran errands this morning. I continued to pray and assured the bride-to-be that it was not going to rain before the pics were taken. Somehow I just had a peace that it would all work out. As I passed by a local church I read on the sign in front of the building "Prayer is not a form of crisis mangement!" Ok, I'm thinking "Lord, I talk to you all of the time about everything and I don't want this to seem like "crisis management", but PLEASE close the clouds until we get these pictures taken. " Somehow, I knew He would. We got to the beautiful location at 4:00pm and had two glorious hours of taking pics, laughing, and oohing and awwwing at the incredible surroundings. I was praising God the whole time for such beautiful weather. Even the photographer said it was perfect for pictures. Yes, it was overcast, cool and misty at times, but perfect. God is so good...all the time!

Rollercoasters....

I have never liked rollercoasters! They scare me to death, make my legs shake uncontrollably, and cause me to start crying before they even move! Right now, I am on a rollercoaster that is going downhill at breakneck speed! You see, our youngest daughter is getting married on May 31st. All of a sudden, we are 4 weeks away from this glorious event and I want to slow down this roller coaster and enjoy every second of the weeks ahead. We are thrilled and blessed with the young man that God has brought into her life....no doubt, he's THE ONE, but we just want time to stand still for a little bit so we can enjoy every minute with her until we give her away on May 31st. Instead, the ride I am on is going 90 mph and whipping around corners like crazy. I close my eyes on Sunday night and it seems like I wake up on Saturday morning. Where oh where is the time going??? I was sharing my rollercoaster example with a friend of mine and she had some wonderful insight on the subject. She said that when one rides a rollercoaster, they can either become tense, grit their teeth and risk injuring their body from the strain and stress they place on it as they weather the ride OR they can relax, throw up their hands, go with the flow and enjoy the ride. Hmmm, I thought.....What insight! I can't stop the speed of this thing but I'm sure going to concentrate on enjoying this ride even if my legs are shaking and my eyes are teary! Thanks, Cindy!
